To increase student exposure to and familiarity with Latin grammar and vocabulary in a natural setting to increase fluency and comprehension.

What will be done with my students

Students will be exposed to Latin through a variety of modalities, incorporating elements from both the reading method (which emphasizes the input of examples) and the grammatical method (which emphasizes rules and patterns). Picta Dicta, as a digital resource, will provide repetition and feedback in a meaningful way--leveraging technology to enhance the learning process.
Students learn languages through four different pathways: hearing, speaking, reading, and writing. Picta Dicta's digital platform will support the teacher's classroom instruction and help students learn more effectively. The course work uses images, sounds, and memorable contexts.  

 

Benefits to my students

Exposure to Latin in an accessible way, leveraging a digital resource, involves a lot of hearing, and speaking, and writing, cements a student's understanding of English grammar and writing, supports analytical thinking, develops scientific vocabulary, and creates in students a sense of order and logically reasoning. 

 

Budget Narrative

The funding will be used to purchase access to Picta Dicta digital resources. These resources will be used in both the classroom and at home to provide active practice and feedback to students and will directly support student learning and growth.
