Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

Our goal is to deliver informative and engaging lessons to the students in our Modified Curriculum Department. Most of these students have a physical, emotional or intellectual disability and lessons need to be tailored to their level of understanding. Brain Pop is a proven educational tool to help students make lasting connections, dive deep into fundamental concepts, and have meaningful learning experiences. BrainPOP is a collection of educational websites that offers animated videos, quizzes, and other resources for students in grades K–8. The site covers a wide range of topics, including science, social studies, English, math, and more. BrainPOP is backed by research and has been shown to raise academic achievement, which is the ultimate goal. The site has been recognized for enhancing digital age teaching and learning. The site's resources include BrainPop.com, for grades 3–8 and up (ages 9 and up) and BrainPop Jr., for grades K-3 (ages 5 to 9). Additionally, BrainPop ELL (English Language Learner), targets our students who are learning English as a second language. What will be done with my students

Fortunately, in our school, students are provided with a personal laptop computer. Their laptops can be used to access these BrainPop websites and personally assigned lessons, which display animated, curriculum-based content that supports educators and are intended to be fun and motivational for students to watch. The sites' movies cover the subjects of science, social studies, English, mathematics, engineering & technology, health & safety, and arts & music. We have 60 students in the MC Department and their instructional levels range between both of these sites, as well as our ELL students who are just being introduced to the English language. Teachers can record learning accomplishments and track students’ progress. This feedback will provide insightful checkpoints and provide useful information to our parents, particularly during our students’ IEP (Individual Educational Plan) meetings. BrainPop movies may be used to introduce a new lesson or topic, for illustrating complex subject matter concisely, or to review before a test. In addition to movies, the site displays quizzes, educational games, experiments and other related content that students can use interactively to reinforce the lessons in the movies. The movies feature recurring characters such as the robot Moby, Tim (a teenager, at BrainPop) and Annie (a younger girl, at BrainPop Jr.). The interactive characters help explain concepts, design experiments, and show students how to acquire a particular skill or use the information given. Students will actually be excited to take the quizzes after the video because it provides immediate feedback in a fun, engaging way. BrainPop’s entertaining videos are just what our students need to grasp their attention and meet them right where they are in their learning!

Benefits to my students

BrainPop, BrainPop Jr. and BrainPop ELL are high-quality educational sites that our students can navigate easily on their own. These interactive sites includes videos, audio prompts, and graphics familiar to kids in an ideal format for our learners. Kids can take their enjoyment of videos to the next, more effective, level and do something with what they've just watched online. These video platforms are designed for teaching that uses animated characters to educate students. The two main characters are Moby and Tim, who effectively host the clips and make sure the sometimes complex topics are simple and engaging, making them perfect for our disabled students, who find learning challenging. The videos tackle a wide range of subjects but largely aim to take more complex issues and offer each in a simplified way that can be easily understood. BrainPOP, BrainPop, Jr. and BrainPop ELL also cover social-emotional learning to students, including important areas such as health, personal hygiene and safety, to name a few.

Budget Narrative
