Goal

The goal of this grant request is to enable my students to develop strong keyboarding skills by limiting distractions while heightening focus during keyboarding practice. It also incorporates mouse use, which they are highly motivated to learn as they know Minecraft Education is in their future and a mouse is necessary to build structures in the Minecraft World.

What will be done with my students

Headsets and mice will be lent to students during class time. Headsets for keyboarding practice time which is 10 minutes and the mouse will be at their fingertips for the rest of class.  

 

Benefits to my students

As a teacher in a data driven world, it is clear that the day of Related Arts being a cushy break from the rest of a student's day is no longer a reality. Instead, Related Arts classes such as PE, Music, Art, and Technology are springboards for lifelong health, professional career paths, and socialization. More importantly, data is tracked and books have been written about these findings. According to Adam Davidson, author of The Passion Economy, we are at the cusp of Art and Technology converging to create jobs as never before seen in our world's history. With that in mind, it is more important than ever to make sure students have the edge they need to make a difference in their lives and our world. Fifty minutes in weekly tech class will be maximized if keyboarding is not curtailed by distractions. Technological skills will be advanced through mouse use, along with the added benefits of comfort, accuracy, and speed. Please help me, help my hard working and auspicious tech students as they navigate their digital world by maximizing their digital skills while they solidify their foundation for a lifetime of success. 

 

Budget Narrative

My budget consists of purchasing a class set of mice and a class set of headphones or the computer lab I also included enough in the budget for several back up mice and headphones to replace as the classroom set either stop working or get broken.
