Improve overall attendance rates by implementing a regular reward system that recognizes students with high attendance.

What will be done with my students

This will be a school-wide attendance intervention aimed at fostering a sense of community and competition around improving attendance.

Regular school attendance plays a crucial role in a child's educational development and has effects on both academic and social outcomes. Here are the key effects of regular attendance on students:

1) Improved academic performance through consistence in learning, gaining better understanding of concepts and achieving higher test scores.

2) Attending school consistently provides children with opportunities to develop social skills through interactions with classmates, fostering teamwork, conflict resolution, and communication. It also helps students develop emotional resilience and adaptability as they engage with different environments and challenges at school.

3) Reduces Likelihood of academic dropout due to prevention of learning gaps and improved engagement. Chronic absenteeism can lead to significant learning gaps which increases the risk of students falling behind, feeling discouraged, and ultimately dropping out.

 

 

Benefits to my students

Student’s daily attendance rates are expected to increase by 3% and chronic absenteeism (10-15 missed days in a 90-day period) is expected to decrease by 15%, evidenced through attendance data collection. To bring these initiatives to fruition, we are seeking a grant of $2,000. These funds will be allocated toward event logistics, including decorations, music, refreshments, and incentives for students who demonstrate consistent attendance, as well as the ongoing initiatives outlined above. 

 

Budget Narrative

This grant would help support quarterly dances, daily prizes, and other incentives to motivate regular school attendance.

- Celebrating Attendance: Hosting four attendance celebrations for every nine-week period to recognize students who maintain regular attendance throughout each grading period. Decorations and refreshments provided.

- Daily Attendance Incentives: Providing daily prizes for the "Beat the Bell" initiative, which aims to motivate students and parents to avoid tardiness and improve punctuality.

- Weekly Class Trophies: Awarding six rotating trophies, which will be transferred from class to class each week to honor the class with the best attendance. This creates healthy competition and further motivates attendance on a consistent basis.
