Goal

To provide a safe, high-quality durable, and easy-to-set-up portable Gaga Ball Pit (and Gaga balls) for the students at Mike Davis Elementary to enjoy during Physical Education classes, Field Day, and recess.

**Champions for learning generously funded our grant for this item last year. We have since found out that the pit was too small to safely fit two classes and have supplemented with mats and such to increase the size. The portable Gaga Ball Pit easily expands by adding additional panels. We are requesting a second portable Gaga Ball Pit to expand our pit to accommodate our daily class size. **

What will be done with my students

Gaga is a fast paced, high-energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more players the better! Adding an additional portable ball pit will provide all students with a safe place to learn the rules of this exciting game and also provide them with a place to practice specific skills learned in physical education class such as dodging, striking, running, and jumping. This portable ball pit is easy to set up and will be ideal for year-round indoor or outdoor use. All students will be able to learn the rules of this game and play during P.E. class. This pit will also lend itself for use during recess or field day to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle among students.  

 

Benefits to my students

Playing Gaga Ball develops competency in motor skills and movement patterns ranging from early running and striking/volleying to complex combinations of locomotor and manipulative skills involving jumping, balancing, dribbling, and striking a ball in a highly dynamic environment. Gaga Ball is inclusive and fosters confidence in individuals to participate in physical activity. Players learn the basic rules of the game in minutes without needing to spend hours acquiring specific advanced skills such as shooting baskets or swinging a bat. Individuals who are challenged to participate in traditional sports enjoy Gaga Ball and feel athletically empowered. Players of varying athletic abilities can participate together because the playing field is “leveled” by the high degree of unpredictability of the game. Gaga Ball promotes social behaviors among participants through involvement of others with different athletic abilities, self-refereeing, peer to peer interactions, and practicing safe and fair play. Participation in Gaga Ball is engaging and challenging at practically any age, helping to maintain lifelong physical activity in both indoor and outdoor settings. The benefits of Gaga ball are endless. A portable pit would allow ALL the students at Mike Davis Elementary to enjoy and benefit from this fun and easy game, where everyone involved gets a serious workout.  

 

Budget Narrative

This project will benefit all students at Mike Davis Elementary. We are requesting $1,386.482 for a 20 Foot GaGa2Go Ball Pit. This is a loved game among students and this GaGa2Go Ball Pit will be enjoyed by all students for years to come. The requested amount includes shipping and taxes. This GaGa2Go Ball Pit will add additional panels to our current pit, helping us better safely instruct and accommodate our students.
