Goal

We're really excited about creating a successful learning environment where every student has the resources they need to thrive! Our Kindergarteners each have their own district-provided laptops, but we’ve noticed that not everyone has access to quality headphones. Good headphones make a HUGE difference in helping students clearly hear their independent digital lessons and get ready for the STAR assessments, which we will take three times as part of our state progress monitoring on the BEST standards. By providing a bulk set of high-quality, comfortable, and durable headphones, along with a few extras for new students, we can help our Kindergarteners feel prepared, successful, and HAPPY while they work independently on their laptops at school. Let’s help them shine!

What will be done with my students

Our Title 1 school serves a wonderful community where many families face economic challenges. On that exciting first day of school, it's not uncommon for our students to arrive with few or no supplies. That’s why we’re looking to provide each Kindergarten student with their own set of headphones! This way, every child can have headphones to use across different subjects, which would really enhance their learning experience. Each pair will be labeled with the student's name and stored safely at school. We'll also order a few extra sets for new students joining us in October and November, as well as for any earbuds that might need replacing due to wear and tear. 

 

Benefits to my students

Our Kindergarteners are having a great time using our district’s awesome digital programs every day! These tools really help them grow and learn in areas like reading, writing, science, social studies, and math. One particularly wonderful resource we use is iReady for reading. This online program gives teachers valuable insights through diagnostic tests conducted three times a year, tracking each student’s progress and tailoring personalized lessons just for them.

iReady covers five important areas of literacy—phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension of literature, and comprehension of informational texts. It makes learning interactive and fun, using sound to keep our young learners engaged. To help them focus and create a calm environment, we need headphones during these lessons. It’s essential for students to concentrate, especially when they are working on phonological awareness activities.

This program is a fantastic research-based tool that can really boost literacy skills. With comfortable, high-quality headphones, every student can hear the lessons clearly, which is vital for their achievement. And with the upcoming STAR progress monitoring tests happening three times a year, good working headphones are more important than ever! For our ESE students, having headphones will assist them with their accommodations, allowing test items to be read aloud while minimizing distractions from noise.

Also, students without accommodations will benefit from having access to read-aloud instructions on the progress tests and digital lessons. Plus, who wouldn’t want to minimize noise distractions in the classroom with some nice headphones? This grant will help ensure all of our Kindergarteners improve their reading and math skills as they stay focused and benefit from the support that a great pair of headphones can provide!
