Goal

Increase Participation: The presence of a drum set in the classroom will captivate students’ interest and ignite their desire to play. This excitement will encourage them to actively participate in music activities, as they will be motivated to earn time on the drum set. The chance to express themselves through rhythm and sound will not only enhance their musical skills but also foster a sense of community as they collaborate and share their passion for music.

Cultural Connection: Incorporate music and drumming styles from the students’ diverse backgrounds (Spanish and Haitian influences) into the curriculum, ensuring that students can relate personally to the material.

Skill Development: Conduct pre- and post-assessments to measure improvements in students' rhythmic skills, coordination, and confidence.

What will be done with my students

With the introduction of the drum set, students will engage in a variety of enriching activities that promote musical growth and personal development. Here’s how we will utilize the drum set:

Hands-On Learning: Students will participate in interactive drumming sessions where they can explore different rhythms, techniques, and styles, allowing them to develop their musical skills in a fun and engaging way.

Group Collaborations: We will organize small group activities where students can collaborate, fostering teamwork and communication as they create rhythmic compositions together. This collaborative environment will encourage peer learning and support.

Cultural Exploration: The curriculum will incorporate drumming traditions from our students’ diverse backgrounds, enabling them to connect with their heritage and share their cultural stories through music.

Performance Opportunities: Students will have the chance to showcase their skills through performances for the school community, building their confidence and pride in their musical achievements.

Goal Setting and Rewards: As students work towards earning drum time, they will set personal goals for their practice and performance, encouraging a sense of ownership and motivation in their musical journey.

Budget Narrative

Drum Set ($900): A quality drum set that will serve as the centerpiece of our program.
Microphones ($500): Two microphones to amplify sound for group lessons and performances.
Cymbals ($200): Essential components for a complete drum set experience.
Drum Sticks ($100): Sufficient supply of drum sticks for all participating students.
Repair Tools ($100): Basic tools for maintenance, ensuring the longevity of our instruments.
Curriculum Materials ($150): Resources including lesson plans, sheet music, and percussion techniques to guide instruction.
Miscellaneous Supplies ($50): Additional needs such as practice pads or storage solutions for the equipment.
