Goal

I would like to offer effective instruction in language development by teaching English vocabulary, while allowing opportunities for the students to hear and speak the language throughout the day. My goal for this project is to leverage a student's native language skills as a foundation for learning the new language.

What will be done with my students

Over 10 percent of students in the United States are English language learners. Though these students do not learn differently than their native-English-speaking peers, they do have particular educational needs. I am requesting funding to purchase 20 translation device earbuds to support English language learners in my kindergarten class. Each year I receive many students between two classrooms that do not speak English and need additional support for their learning. This tool will offer my instruction to English language learners in their native language, to continue to support their development of a strong foundation in their first language as they learn English in my classroom.   

 

Benefits to my students

Standard ELA.K.C.5.1 Using a multimedia element to enhance oral or written skills. Students will have a better understanding of the lessons being taught through use of their native language as a way to ensure that their benchmarks increase by at least 10 points in English Language arts. Benchmarks will be measured by comparing test scores from the beginning of the year and the end of year. English language learners will learn to comprehend, interpret, analyze, and evaluate literary and informational text in English. They will also be able to produce clear and coherent writing for a range of tasks in English language arts.  

 

Budget Narrative

Funding requested will purchase 20 language translator device earbuds. These devices offer real-time two-way translation, high-definition sound quality, providing clear and pure sound, and offline language translation
