Goal
Jefferson has an inactive chapter of Beta, a national organization that "emphasizes our four pillars (Academic Achievement, Character, Leadership, and Service) by providing opportunities and experiences to impact our members, their schools, and communities across the world." https://www.betaclub.org/about/ We would like to have Beta return to Jefferson's campus by reactivating our charter. Membership costs $32 per student per year, with returning students paying $16 per year. As a Title 1 high school, some of our students will have a hardship paying dues. Our goal is to pay dues for every eligible student (53 total 10th/11th/12th graders) to be a part of this great organization.

What will be done with my students
Students will benefit from being a part of Beta club in a number of ways.
Academic Achievement – Students need to have a 3.8 unweighted GPA to be considered for membership in Beta club. Having such high scholarship expectations will encourage students to do well academically to stay involved with the club. Being able to add Beta Club to their college resume could potentially help some of these students prove their commitment to academics and get into the colleges of their first choice.
Character - We are partnering with Plant High School's currently established Beta Club, so Jefferson students will be able to meet other like-minded students who value academics and learn from each other. Plant Beta students have already informally shared information about getting ready to apply for college and completing college applications. Jefferson students will also be held to the highest standards of behavior for membership in the club.
Service – Beta students will have opportunities to earn service hours for Bright Futures through service projects such as peer tutoring and collecting donations for local food banks.
Leadership – As the premier academic club on campus, Jefferson students will have additional leadership opportunities. Part of Beta’s curriculum is learning about leadership including what leadership means and takes to be a good leader.
Timeline:
August-November 2024 - Monthly meetings completed with 1-4 Plant Beta students and 3-10 Jefferson students to gauge interest and commitment.
December 16, 2024 - First formal informational meeting including all potential Jefferson student members and Plant student representatives
January 2025 - Additional informational meeting to plan Jefferson's Beta induction and service projects, representative Jefferson students and staff attend Plant's Beta induction ceremony
February 2025 - Jefferson's Beta induction ceremony, service projects such as peer tutoring and food pantry drive.
March 2025 - May 2025 - Ongoing Peer tutoring, elections for Jefferson Beta board 2025-2026
