What will be done with my students
The overall idea of Project: Lemonade Stand is to provide a meaningful, interactive way to teach entrepreneurship, web design, and Digital Information Technology. I truly value business and understand the impact that small business owners make on our economy.
There is so much to learn from business ownership. The are a few things that I would like for my students to take advantage of is the concept of social entrepreneurship. I want my students to understand that they have a social responsibility to their community and the environment. I believe that the value of community is limitless, and I want to show my students how to establish a community around their goals and aspirations. I want them to understand that you can own a business, be successful, make lots of money and sow back into your community. I want them to understand you can create socially responsible products and services that will be good for the environment and help others that are still extremely successful. I believe that this grant will be the first step to showing my students how community is an invaluable echo chamber that if you put something positive in, then you will get something positive out.
I plan to implement this business idea at Simmons Career Center, a Title 1 school that strives to serve the communities that are underserved. This is a school where over 90 percent of students are students of color. I want to offer as many opportunities for growth and development to my students as possible.
• The idea is to sell lemonade during school lunches. Every student will have a “shift” at some point in the month and then they’ll switch out. I believe this will be an experience where every student can be able to be inventive and contribute to a collective goal.
• The goal is to give students the opportunity to engage with the business in a very realistic way whether it be Web Design, Digital Information Technology, or through the Entrepreneurship Program. This business idea relates to my courses because helping with flyers/Logos and a website from the web design class. The digital information technology class will help to streamline and make operations efficient. This is done through data entry and analysis. Also, bookkeeping and management of resources. Of course, the entrepreneurship class will pilot all ideas to execute the various needs of the business. This is done through fundraising, pitching, and all managerial duties etc.
Benefits to my students
I expect my 90% of my students to understand The Cost of Doing Business, Delivering Procedures and Services, The Economics of One Unit Sale, Break-Even Analysis, Pricing Strategies & Profitability, Decide on a Cost Structure. I will measure their success through a pre and posttest.
I would like to eventually take the project off campus by engaging in various activities/events within plant city including the State Fair or the Strawberry Festival.
