Goal
I am writing to request funding for the purchase of stage lighting with sound-responsive settings and a metronome watch to support and enhance the learning experiences of our Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students. These technologies will be used in our music program and during school concerts, enabling us to create an inclusive and dynamic educational environment where all students can fully participate.
The primary goal of this project is to support DHH students by incorporating technology that enhances their ability to participate in music class and performances. By providing visual cues through stage lights that change in response to sounds, students will be able to perceive the rhythm, volume, and nuances of music in real time. Additionally, the metronome watch will give students a personal tool to stay in rhythm, ensuring they can follow the beat during music activities and performances.

What will be done with my students
The lights and metronome watches will be utilized during regular music classes to enhance the learning experience. Additionally, for our school concerts, the lighting will create a more immersive performance environment, with DHH students able to visually interpret the music as they perform. These tools will help all students, regardless of hearing ability, to develop a deeper connection with the music they create.
The lights changed color and intensity in response to sounds, providing visual feedback that allowed DHH students to experience the music in a unique way. With the proper funding, we will purchase the lighting systems that can be integrated into our music room and performance spaces. These lights will be synchronized with sound and music, enhancing the learning environment for all students, but especially for DHH students who may not fully hear the sounds but can visually engage with the rhythm and melody.
These watches will help them maintain a consistent sense of rhythm, which is crucial in music education. The metronome's tactile and vibrating features will be invaluable for DHH students, allowing them to feel the beat directly on their wrist. This will ensure they stay in sync during both classroom activities and performances.
Benefits to my students
This project will directly benefit our DHH students by providing them with tools that allow them to experience music in an inclusive and multisensory manner. The combination of visual lighting cues and tactile metronome feedback will empower them to engage with music on a deeper level, building their confidence and enjoyment in musical expression. Furthermore, by incorporating these technologies into our music program and concerts, we will create a more accessible and inclusive environment for all students, fostering a greater appreciation for the arts in our school community.
The addition of sound-responsive stage lights and metronome watches will significantly enhance the educational experience for our DHH students in music class and performances. We are excited about the opportunity to further support their learning and growth through the integration of these technologies. I sincerely hope you will consider funding this project and help us provide an enriching, inclusive music education to all of our students.
Budget Narrative
1. Stage Lighting with Sound-Responsive Settings: $1,000
We plan to purchase four (4) stage lighting systems with sound-responsive settings, which will be integrated into our music room and performance spaces. These lights will change color and intensity in response to the sounds in the room, providing visual feedback that supports DHH students' ability to perceive the rhythm, volume, and energy of the music. The requested amount will cover:
Cost per unit: $250
Total for 4 units: $1000
These lights will be utilized during both regular music classes and school concerts to create a multisensory music experience. The lighting system we are requesting has been trialed and proven effective in a previous test, ensuring that it will meet our students' needs and align with the learning goals of our music program.
2. Metronome Watches: $500
To further enhance our music education program, we will purchase 5 (5) metronome watches for use by our DHH students. These wrist-worn devices will provide tactile vibration and rhythmic feedback, allowing students to feel the beat, which is essential for maintaining rhythm during both practice and performances. The requested budget covers:
Cost per unit: $100
Total for 5 units: $500
The metronome watches will be a valuable resource in the music classroom, as they will allow each student to have their own personal tool to help them stay in sync with the music, regardless of their hearing ability. These devices will empower students to develop their rhythmic skills and improve their overall musical performance.
3. Installation and Setup Costs: $250
To ensure proper integration of the lighting systems into the music room and performance spaces, we have estimated installation and setup costs.
It is essential that the stage lighting is set up and configured correctly to provide the intended visual feedback and synchronize with sounds during music activities. Professional installation will ensure that the lighting systems are safely and effectively integrated into the classroom and performance environments.
4. Training for Music Teachers: $250
In order to fully leverage the benefits of the new technology, it is necessary for our music teachers to receive training on how to use both the stage lighting and metronome watches effectively in the classroom and during performances. This training will cover:
Proper setup and use of stage lighting
Integration of metronome watches into music lessons
Best practices for using technology to support DHH students in music education
The training will be provided by a specialist who is familiar with these tools and can guide our teachers in creating a more inclusive music education environment. The training costs will cover:
Trainer’s fee: $125
Materials and resources for the training session: $125
This investment in teacher training will ensure that our music staff is equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to make the most of these new resources for the benefit of our DHH students.
