Goal

By implementing new trophies to our monthly winners, students will be eager to attend school and overall school wide attendance will improve. In the 23-24 school year, our schoolwide attendance rate was 91.9%. Our goal is to improve our rate by 5%. Per CCSR research summary, students who are chronically absent between preschool and second grade have significantly lower learning outcomes at the end of second grade than their peers who are not chronically absent in the early years. Research also indicates that incentives promote improved school attendance. We are hopeful that getting new trophies for our monthly competition will motivate students to come to school more.

To provide the grade level homeroom winners with an attendance trophy that they keep for the month. We are also asking for popcorn that will help provide two months' worth of popcorn parties along with coffee filters that we will use as popcorn bowls for an easy clean up.

What will be done with my students

Every month, the grade levels compete in "Battle of the homerooms". The homeroom with the highest classroom attendance per grade level is announced on the morning show and they will receive a class trophy and a popcorn party that day!

This school wide attendance incentive occurs once every month for the remainder of the school year.

Our goal is that students will be motivated to attend school to win Battle of the Homerooms, therefore, their academic achievement will improve if they are consistently attending school on time and regularly.

Regular school attendance has many positives effects:
-Positive school climate
-Academic achievement
-Social emotional well being
-Other skills (responsibility, strong work ethic).
 

 

Benefits to my students

Our hope is for our school wide attendance to increase by 5%. This will not only help improve student academic achievement but attending school regularly also promotes positive school climate, student social emotional wellbeing, and other positive life skills such as strong work ethic.

The grant will allow us to purchase new grade level class trophies, popcorn, and popcorn bowls for their popcorn parties.
