Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Suncoast Credit Union - $111.77
The goal of the project is to teach students how to handle their emotions in an appropriate way. If funded, this project will provide sensory tools and materials to students who need support with sensory deficits and processing. This project will help students learn how to self-calm when they are feeling too excited, angry, frustrated, sad, or any other big emotions.
This project will give students several different ways to learn how to cope with their emotions. Because the goal of the project is to teach students HOW to handle their emotions in an appropriate way, we need several different types of calming and sensory tools, so that the children can find what works for them. Examples include squishy tools, stress balls, and fidget tools. Many children have a difficult time reacting appropriately when they are upset, and having access to materials to aid in calming them would make the classroom a more positive place!
Students will learn how to manage their emotions and behaviors that stem from their emotions. For example, instead of hitting or screaming when a child is upset, they can choose a sensory tool from the classroom 'Safe Place' to help them calm down. Students will become independent in taking breaks and finding the tools that are right for them. This safe space and sensory materials will give students an opportunity to decompress and return to class ready to learn.
