Find It Fund It Florida - Hillsborough Education Foundation

My goal for this project is to give my gifted and talented students rigorous and engaging material. I want them to increase their critical thinking skills and enhance their interest in reading at school.
The Jacob’s Ladder units are designed to enhance reading comprehension. The tasks have been organized by skill ladders with questions and activities within each. Ladder rungs are organized to increase complexity in intellectual demand. The ladders cover sequencing, cause and effect, details classification, inferencing, themes, implications, generalizations and concepts.

How Project Benefits Students

This project will benefit K-5th grade students in Language Arts.
This ongoing project will provide a unique opportunity for gifted students during the school year to enhance reading comprehension and critical thinking skills with varying texts including literature, poetry, science, math and social studies.
This project will enable me to extend creativity, collaboration, culture, critical thinking, creativity and communication for the gifted and talented students. The regular education teachers will also have access to these materials to use with their high ability student during differentiation in ELA classrooms.
The Jacob’s Reading Comprehension Program targets reading comprehension skills for high ability readers by moving them from basic understanding to critical analysis of text.
The Jacob’s Ladder Bundle with a regular text PDF and an ebook will enable students to use this resource online during elearning.
The Jacob’s Reading Comprehension Program was designed for Gifted students by the Center of Gifted Education of William and Mary.

Expected Outcome(s)

Using skill ladders connected to short stories, poetry, essays and non-fiction, students move from concrete thinking to critical thinking skills. The students will increase their ability to think critically and have intelligent discussions on a wide array of topics. In addition, the students will be engaged in reading because it is on their level of complexity and reasoning.
