Find It Fund It Florida - Hillsborough Education Foundation

If given this extremely generous grant, our goal is for teachers to be able to teach leadership skills to the entire school: All K-5th grades! Not just a few times a month, but multiple times a week. The teachers would have staff development books explaining how the Leader In Me system is best implemented for the children of each grade level. Teachers would also be able to access not only videos and webinars to learn training and implementation, but also in-person training! Children would receive workbooks, videos and handouts documenting the habits to becoming a leader.

Project Goal

If given this extremely generous grant, our goal is for teachers to be able to teach leadership skills to the entire school: All K-5th grades! Not just a few times a month, but multiple times a week. The teachers would have staff development books explaining how the Leader In Me system is best implemented for the children of each grade level. Teachers would also be able to access not only videos and webinars to learn training and implementation, but also in-person training! Children would receive workbooks, videos and handouts documenting the habits to becoming a leader.

How Project Benefits Students

These habits —be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek to understand and then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw (physical activity) are exactly what Muller Elementary wants for their staff, students and families!

A bit about us and our school: Muller Elementary is a Title 1 School with an 84.4% disadvantaged student rate (students in poverty rate), sometimes referred to as the “free lunch” rate. Muller’s student body is largely composed of historically underserved ethnic minority groups. According to current data reported by the National Center for Education Statistics website, Muller’s student body is 31% Black and 46% Hispanic, 7% Two or more races. 15.6% Disabled. EVERY SINGLE NUMBER is HIGHER than both State and District averages...except White. There is more need, and more diversity combined in this school than almost anywhere in the entire state.

In conclusion, we are asking for $2000 to help fund the Leader In Me school kit to help over 400 marginalized students take control of their lives and steer their future towards higher-achieving goals, leadership positions and continuing their education. This will break the cycle of perpetuating their social stereotypes and lead themselves and their future children, into higher paying jobs and halting the paycheck to paycheck lifestyles that their parents have stuck in for decades. Please help us show them greater options for their futures!

Expected Outcome(s)

Schools who have implemented this Leader In Me school Kit have seen:
22.8% improvement in student behavior
30.71 % improvement in parent’s mental well-being
92% of parents say Leader In Me has had a positive impact on their child
(see this link for over 30 independent studies and research briefs):
https://www.leaderinme.org/blog/category/all-studies/)

This would be HUGE for this at-risk population at our school!

We would also be meeting and working on the following standards:

Detailed Cost Summary

This project requires funding for this school year! The cost is an average of $16 per child, which is about $7,000. but we would be forever grateful for the $2,000 portion of this!
We have secured funds for $5,000 and just need the last amount to finalize this project!

We would receive 7 Habits Posters to provide visual supports, workbooks to provide real-world examples with in-class work and videos for the classrooms to reinforce the 7 Habits. We would also receive Teacher Tools of Community Building cards to strengthen connections, and Leader In Me Teacher Guides - Academic, Culture and Leadership sets. Plus access to global resource materials with Leader In Me community members to connect with a more diverse and wide-spread group to support the Habits to our future success.
