Project Goal

The goal of this grant request is to offer ESE students (students with disabilities) at an Achievement School (low SES status) the ability to learn with flexibility in their classrooms.

How Project Benefits Students

Benefits for ESE students through flexibility includes Choice, Movement, Community, Comfort, Collaboration and Sensory Input. Students learn best when they have some control of the environment with which they will learn in. All children need to move throughout their days and this is even more so with students with disabilities. Due to circumstances of a world wide pandemic, our students will find it more difficult to move around their environments due to safety factors. Flexibility seating will allow students to have the movement within a safe space and environment. Flexibility seating will also provide stimulation of sensory touch. It is proven best practice for students will disabilities to use sensory stimulation in their every day learning. Overall, creating an environment for students with disabilities that provides stimulation and choice with greatly benefit their learning days.

Expected Outcome(s)

The expected benefit outcome of flexible seating will reach over 40 students within the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) program. This group consists of students from grades K-5 that are serviced between 3 Special Education Certified teachers. Outcomes will include a more relaxed and stress free environment which will intern help facilitate learning within the classroom.
