Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Suncoast Credit Union - $1,800.00
We want to provide access to our students to more graphic novels, illustrated fiction, diary fiction and overall books that the kids chose they want to read, with the goal being at least 200 books.
We are starting a new book club at our school called Project Lit. This grassroots movement is aimed to get rid of "book deserts", which are times in students lives when they go months or even years without reading a book, especially a book they choose on their own. Students in this club will be the ones choosing which books to purchase based on their own interests. While most of these books will be added to the collection on a long-term basis, a portion of the books will be gifted to students to keep. This is extremely important for kids to feel ownership over their learning and foster the love of reading!
We expect students from the new club to promote these books to their peers. This will increase checkout throughout the whole school, attract more kids to join the club, and improve reading motivation and skills.
Books will be purchased using best available deals from vendors including Barnes and Nobles (especially bogo and buy 2 get 1 deals), Amazon (especially for hardcover or pricier titles), and Scholastic Reading Club (to enable additional books at no cost using points and bonuses). The goal is to stretch that $1800 to be worth over $3000 of books.
