Project Goal

To empower 5th grade girls to own their role in school leadership, foster positive relationships, and increase positive self-esteem through self-expression, gratitude and kindness.

How Project Benefits Students

Girls that participate in the group will have a clearer sense of self and will be more self-assured as they transition into middle school. They will feel more confident engaging in positive peer relationships, problem solving, and empowering their peers to be the best versions of themselves. A kindness project will be developed and completed so they can demonstrate their leadership skills while having a positive impact on the entire school culture.

The group is offered virtually and in-person every 6 weeks. It is the intention of the facilitator that all girls who want to participate will be given the opportunity to do so.

Finally, the girls will build a positive sense of community because Glitterhood memberships are for life. This will always be a safe space for girls to be themselves where peers can boost them up. Glitterhood is more than a sisterhood, it is a QUEENhood!

Expected Outcome(s)

Expected outcomes include increased academic engagement, a decrease in disruptive behaviors, and an increase in positive social skills and self-esteem. These positive outcomes will impact the entire school culture. It is expected that girls that go through the Glitterhood group will come out feeling more confident in who they are and their abilities to be successful. Girls may see increased confidence in academic abilities translating into positive academic engagement and success. Girls will have developed skills for positive social interactions resulting in healthier peer relationships. Lastly, due to an increase in positive self-esteem, the girls of Glitterhood will have advanced problem-solving skills and resiliency factors that will support them throughout their educational experience and personal life.

Detailed Cost Summary

Each week the girls will participate in a relevant activity which may include art or energetic discussion. Additionally, the kindness project will require enough materials to make a schoolwide impact. For virtual groups, supplies will be sent home with the students' regular eLearning materials. The costs will cover a full year (4 cycles) of the Glitterhood Girls’ Group.
