My goal is to find new ways to help students learn and retain their letters and sounds.
I work with a blended group of students. This means that my classroom consists of both VPK students and students with special needs. Every classroom has it's challenges and successes. I am looking for ways to help my students acquire basic literacy skills in order to be even more successful in Kindergarten. I find that with early childhood, the more hands on we are, the more the students retain. I am looking to purchase a kit called: Handwriting Without Tears Pre-Kindergarten Kit (with Standard Letter Cards). This kit contains materials that allow the children to experience hands on learning.
This program would help me differentiate instruction and give the students another tool that will help them learn how to build and write letters. Students will learn to develop crucial readiness and pre-writing skills such as:
Social-emotional activities for school readiness
Basic habits for letter and number formation
Music and movement
Building and drawing
Unique crayon strokes
Color and shape activities
My expected outcome, from attaining these materials, is a greater development of social-emotional and academic readiness skills for Kindergarten.
