The goal of this project is to create memorable and magical moments for our students. This grant will provide a several read-aloud books that support social emotional learning, growth mindset, culturally relevant topics, and creative thinking. In addition, lessons will be brought to life through a variety of costumes and props that will transform a normal read aloud into a magical memorable moment for all students for years to come!
As a new media specialist, I have dreamed of the day I can provide meaningful and memorable read aloud's to students. This project will allow me to create magic in our media center through a variety of props and costumes that will allow me to bring our read aloud's to life! Imagine reading a story such as the the culturally relevant story "King of Kindergarten" dress as a king, or conducting a social emotion lesson reading "positive ninja" dressed as a ninja. Simply wearing a costume makes that read aloud all the more special for elementary students, helping them find the love and joy in literacy.
The expected outcome of this project is to create memorable moments for students that will lead students finding the love in literacy. Students who love literacy, read more, and those who read more frequently make more achievement gains in all subjects.
In addition, my goal is for students to gain a variety of life lessons through the social emotional, growth mindset, creativity, and culturally relevant books. Students will learn strategies such as accepting feedback, creative problem solving, grit, positive thinking and other valuable life skills.
The grant funds would support in this list will be able to purchase 34 costumes, hats and accessories. In addition, 75 read aloud books supporting supporting social emotional learning, creativity and growth mindset.
