Project Goal

I am continuing the Band Program at Burnett Middle School this year. I am looking to fix our current instruments, Band scores for a Winter/Spring concert and possible Music Performance Assessment evaluation and buy new class set of Band Technique books for the classroom.

How Project Benefits Students

- Playing an instrument is scientifically proven to benefit your health,
- Playing an instrument is scientifically proven to have the same positive affects on your wellbeing as yoga,
- Meet and respond to people from all different majors, cultures and backgrounds,
- Cultivating musical skills benefits all other areas of study,
- America's manufacturing-driven economy is being replaced by a creative economy,
- School bands are important to a complete education that will prepare students for the global economy, and
- 90% of educators surveyed believe band playing can keep some students engaged who might otherwise be lost particularly true of those (94%) who describe the ethnicity of their schools as diverse.

Expected Outcome(s)

The expected outcome is that the students at Burnett Middle School will be able to participate in a successful and supportive band. Students will also be exposed to all types of music that will allow them an outlet for their everyday stresses and anxieties. The goal is to also build confidence and self worth in each student as we learn to perform together as a team. Students will all the musical skill necessary to continue onto our high school ensembles and band opportunities in adulthood.

The band concerts will allow the students the opportunity to learn all the working components of a live band experience. It not only allows for self development on the stage but behind the sense as well. Students will control every aspect of running a live musical performance. These activity includes playing their instruments, performance etiquette, performance dress, and actual performance techniques suitable for a successful band concert performance.
