As a music teacher, I could give you million reasons to learning how to play cello but my favorite reason is that learning to play an instrument builds confidence and teaches a child the strategy of hard work. The cello brings the music down to earth with its versatility, playing in three clefs: bass, tenor and treble. It produces a wonderful, lustrous sound that makes for a stunning performance in both orchestra and solo performances. The cello is also more expensive for students than the Violin or viola. I would love to be able to help more students acquire the needed materials to help them be successful on their musical endeavor.
I teach standard MU.68.O.2.2; Demonstrate knowledge of major and minor tonalities through performance and composition. For my students to perform the best they can, I need additional supplies available to them in the classroom.
The students have to learn according to the Sunshine State Standards and one of the standard, MU.68.O.2.2 covers how my students have to play major and minor tetrachords starting on any note, using appropriate finger patterns, through seventh position. Life happens and sometimes a string will fail. Having backup strings to play is essential to being able to play. The school has over 50% of the students on free and reduced meals. Having books and rock stops on hand for them to borrow is also a needed necessity. Playing an instrument should not be a privilege and having the supplies needed is an absolute must.
My students will benefit from this grant by having supplies in class to learn the beautiful tone of the cello. I will be able to provide books, strings and rock stops for my students. I expect all of my students (100%) to be able to participate in lessons and learn appropriate finger patterns, through fifth position.
Our concerts are well attended and the students will gain confidence in their skill as they have the appropriate supplies needed to practice for the big performances.
