“Internet of Things” or IoT is considered to be the fourth industrial revolution(1). IoT is defined as the interconnection via the Internet of computing devices embedded in everyday objects, enabling them to send and receive data. I have a responsibility to teach the standard SC.912.CS-CS.4.3 - Differentiate between multiple levels of hardware and software (such as CPU hardware, operating system, translation, and interpretation) that support program execution. I am preparing my students to either enter the workforce or seek higher education and become productive citizens within the next 10 years. If they seek a career path in computer science, it is important that they have the tools to explore advanced coding and prepare for the next industrial revolution.

Raspberry Pi has a very vibrant online community of sharing coding ideas. Raspberry Pi offers my students the ability to explore loading different operating systems on Raspberry Pi such as RetroPie which turns the Raspberry Pi into retro-gaming machine, Raspbian for java coding or explore other operating systems and what they have to offer. My students can prototype new IoT solutions for everyday life and become entrepreneurs.
The expected outcome if we receive the grant of Raspberry Pi is more comprehensive education in computer science and opportunity for advanced students to explore on their own concepts in computer science that are not within the scope of the class.
I am seeking 15 Raspberry Pi kits from Sargent Welch which is an approved HCPS vendor.
