Suzanne Ponder - $109.12
The purpose of this project is increase the diversity of the literature we use during our shared reading time in our 3rd grade e-learning classroom, with special consideration given to our nation’s cultural climate.
My student population is diverse and I feel the books we read should be as well. These books will be read as we explore our reading standards and not in isolation as a “discussion on race.” A scary statistic was recently brought to my attention that in a survey of classroom library there were more titles about animals than students of color. In a study of 2,500 titles, less than 1 percent of books for children and teens had Black authors or illustrators in 1985, according to the Cooperative Children’s Book Center of Education.
To purchase about picture books that have won the Coretta Scott King Award or the Latino Book Award to incorporate into our shared reading time.
Total cost 109.12 for the purchase of 10 books.
