Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Hillsborough Education Foundation - $2,000.00
With continuing growth and teaching in science through a pandemic, many of our routines for hands-on STEM activities have been redesigned to adhere to a safe learning environment. My goal this year is to continue STEM activities for students to still have the opportunity for growth in Science. Due to our low economic population, I would like to have the ability to provide every student activity kits to continue hands-on activities with social distancing.
Projects will benefit our learners and help students have a deeper knowledge of our science content to close the achievement gap. In 2019, our 8th graders were only 3% away from meeting the district average, and only a 4% away from meeting the state average in science. Given the low socioeconomic statue of many of the students that attend Webb Middle, funding our grant will provide materials and lessons to close the achievement gap for all students.
STEM activities also combine ELA and MATH, making these lessons beneficial for students across all subject areas.
Expected outcomes are for students to score at or above county average on state assessments for ELA, Math, and Science. This will be for all students schoolwide.
STEM kits that will be provided for each student will enhance engagement and will help students understand science standards by producing a model or product. One kit will be creating Earth's many layers to show how carbon dating and fossils are formed. Other kit can be for creating sedimentary rocks to further the understanding of the rock cycle. Students will receive their own individual kits to explore and create their scientific thinking.
$2000 for supply each student their own personal STEM kits.
