Project Goal

Our music program at Lopez Elementary School is in dire need of an upgrade to our choral music library. The school is full of avid singers who are clamoring for new repertoire! We are seeking funding for twelve years of past issues of Plank Road Publishing's Music K-8 Teacher Resource Magazine, from 2008-2020.

How Project Benefits Students

We are a Title I school in a high poverty community in Seffner. Children come to school in real need of programs that meet their social-emotional needs,
and many find a sense of joy, comfort and belonging when making music together. We have a long history of providing high quality music opportunities for children at Lopez, and new choral music will provide fresh vocal experiences for students in all grades as they sing in music class, in grade level performances, in patriotic and holiday school-wide programs, and in our school chorus. The Music K-8 magazines are packed with new music and studio recordings, and include multicultural songs, holiday and seasonal songs, patriotic songs, and songs arranged for 2-part singing. Students in every grade will be impacted by the new choral resources!

Expected Outcome(s)

A "refreshed" choral music library would have the following outcomes in our school music program:

1. Students in all grades will have enhanced learning experiences with new repertoire in music class, especially the availability of more multicultural choral resources in the songs they sing and study in class.

2. Students in all grades (and their parents) will enjoy new repertoire in their performances, with high quality studio recordings providing tasteful and appropriate accompaniment.

3. Students will benefit from hearing exemplars of excellent singing skills as they listen to the singers in the studio recordings in their music lessons and chorus rehearsals. Listening to good singers is a vital part of a child's vocal development in a school music program.

In addition, student learning achieved through the use of these new resources impact a multitude of NGSSS music standards across all grade levels, including:
