Project Goal

The goal is to increase science and reading outcomes as well as accessibility. Students in my classroom have very complex needs but they have shown that with support and research based curriculum they can overcome many obstacles and be successful academically.

These two curriculum programs will make be tremendously appreciated and utilized helping my students supercede academic expectations.

How Project Benefits Students

Students in self-contained classroom require extensive support and differentiation. Research has shown that when provided with the necessary tools and support, students with special needs can reach the same or higher academic outcomes as their non-disabled peers.

Currently our school only has enough curriculum for general education students and only one level of Snapshots (ESE science curriculum) that has to be shared between 4 classrooms.

I currently teach students in K-2 both e-learning and on campus and this additional level and material will help them grow immensely.

In addition- SIPPS is a proven reading intervention that has shown tremendous success with supporting students through reading support. Decoding is a difficult task for any student, but when students have additional barriers, reading can be an arduous task. The school currently does not have enough of these curriculum supports and the funding used for the ESE department is limited.

Expected Outcome(s)

Through the use of both of these curriculums with fidelity there will be an increase in both reading and science outcomes.

Science is a subject that deeply sparks the interest of the students in the classroom and it is time to expand their learning to the next level.
