Our students in second grade are below level in reading. We want to use our science block to teach science and reading together. We plan as a team and this grant would fill 5 second grade units with the reading books and the engagement kits so that students can also conduct scientific experiments that relate to the book. Students reading comprehension and science concepts will increase with these engaging activities. We will continue to use them to impact students for many years.
Students will be able to use reading strategies to understand scientific topics such as plants, life cycles, Matter, light, and nutrition.
Students will master the science standards and better understand the topics.
Because this is a grade level project, we expect excitement among the students and teachers which will promote thinking , questioning, and most importantly learning!
Students will increase in the area of reading comprehension, vocabulary, and nonfiction text features.
Students will learn and master science topics such as matter, light, nutrition, life cycles, and plants.
Students will develop a love for science and reading to learn.Our ELL students lack the opportunities so we will bring it to them.
These kits provides the books and the engaging lessons for our whole second grade units at our school. It provides the books and the hands on materials for the activities and engagement learning.
