The garden serves as a hands-on learning experience to investigate life science and nature of science standards, while teaching future global citizens responsibility and the benefit sustainability.
The garden approach to teaching addresses the needs of visual/spatial learners, mathematical learners and physical/kinesthetic learners. The garden coupled with text book instruction will aide all students in science standard attainment.
Goals
1. Improve the percentage of students that earn achieve on the NGSSS standardized exam.
2. Engage learners in science instruction.
3. Foster a sense of responsibility.
4. Create long lasting partnerships within our community.
5. Engage families in learning about sustainability.
This grant request is for the restoration and upkeep of our 4th grade learning garden. The items requested include $161.95 worth of materials to fix the irrigation system. The garden has direct access to a water source. We were using a hose and sprinkler previously. Included is $174.32 requested for fencing and plant support fencing. Weed prevention materials cost $75.90. The remaining items requested are seeds, seedlings and plants, soil, and gardening tools.
