If funded, this project will support me in successfully building number sense in children. The Rekenrek gives children a concrete, physical object to help develop and deepen their understanding of numbers. Children build a strong sense of 5 and 10, learning about the relationships among numbers and operations along the way.
These materials will allow me to introduce a math topic to all students, and then provide each student with hands on opportunities to explore and build understanding through independent practice. www.hand2mind.com
After receiving these resources and implementing them into my math instruction, I expect to increase student achievement in math scores in the area of numbers and operations, as measured by i-Ready and District created beginning of year and end of year assessments by 20 percent.
The requested items include class sets of Rekenrek 20 Bead and 100 Bead wooden stands, a magnetic rekenrek for teacher modeling, and rekenrek dominoes for independent practice.
