Project Goal

The goal of this project is to create and deliver engaging lessons based in science and engineering for K-3 grade students. Using LEGOs with the Gifted students at my school will help prepare them for careers in STEM. https://education.lego.com/en-us/products/lego-education-bricq-motion-essential/45401#bricq-motion-essential The use of the materials in this grant will increase the scores on the Statewide Science Assessment by 10%. This is due to the higher-level thinking and problem-solving skills that the students will use with these sets.

How Project Benefits Students

This project will purchase the materials so that I can implement lessons with my K-3 students. I plan on using these materials all year and for many years to come. Students will first establish routines and procedures with the materials and then be engaged in a STEM problem with a solution that involves a build with LEGO's. This could be anything from building a bridge between two pillars or creating a mechanism that would assist an individual with a prosthetic limb. Since these materials are not consumable, they would be available for many years.

Expected Outcome(s)

I hope to create an environment so that the students are taking risks and helping each other to solve these real world problems. I am attempting to prepare these students for careers that may not even yet be invented. The only way to do this is to make them confident in their abilities and challenge them to think outside the box. The use of the materials in this grant will increase the scores on the Statewide Science Assessment by 10%. This is due to the higher-level thinking and problem-solving skills that the students will use with these sets.

Detailed Cost Summary

This is on the LEGO education website. I would need a set of LEGOs for each group of three students that I teach. 7 sets would give me enough to work with about 21 students.
