Find It Fund It Florida - Hillsborough Education Foundation

The goal of my project is to get my 4th graders engaged and excited about learning like a scientist! My students averaged a 55% on the baseline science assessment. I would like for them to reach an average score of 70% to show end of the year mastery of 4th grade standards content. That would be 14% points gained.

Project Goal

The goal of my project is to get my 4th graders engaged and excited about learning like a scientist! My students averaged a 55% on the baseline science assessment. I would like for them to reach an average score of 70% to show end of the year mastery of 4th grade standards content. That would be 14% points gained.

How Project Benefits Students

I would love to have a class set of 24 lab coats for my students to wear as we investigate about the world around them. They will FEEL like scientists and other students will recognize them as an exemplar in their field. I would love these 4th graders to go into 5th grade classrooms, "dressed for success" and review 4th grade science content standards with them. These lab coats can be washed and used for years to come!
In addition , an annual subscription to FLOCABULARY will get my students singing about science. FLOCABULARY is a library of catchy rap songs, videos and activities for in class and online learning. The science songs get stuck in students heads to create lasting memories of important topics.

Expected Outcome(s)

I teach science to ALL of the 4th graders (70) at Morgan Woods. These students along with the 5th graders, that my students will visit and review science with, will benefit from this project. I expect to see students excited about learning and engaged in instruction. As a result of this funding, test scores should automatically increase along with the LOVE of science! My students averaged a 55% on the baseline science assessment. I would like for them to reach an average score of 70% to show end of the year mastery of 4th grade standards content. That would be 14% points gained.
