Project Goal

The mission of iMOM, a program of Family First, is to help moms love their families well by providing ideas, insight, and inspiration. Muller will fulfill this mission by hosting bimonthly breakfasts where mothers/guardians/caregivers can bond with their children, learn parenting strategies, and form a community with each other and the school.

How Project Benefits Students

When parents have the tools they need to be successful, their children flourish. It is also well known that increased parental engagement leads to better grades, more consistent attendance, fewer behavioral issues, and an increased ability to learn. It is, therefore, not only the responsibility of schools to help our children succeed by making sure the parents succeed as well but also in our best interest to do so. Creating a supporting and safe community of mothers/guardians/caregivers all focused on being better parents for our children will benefit everyone involved. Muller will host bimonthly iMOM breakfasts as a means of building this supportive community. During each breakfast, school faculty and staff will provide a brief presentation on a parental success topic along with materials to support success at home. Time will also be provided for moms/guardians/caregivers and children to eat with each other, socialize, and form a community of support. We would also like to provide items as giveaways to encourage attendance and support our families.

Expected Outcome(s)

Over the school year we will host four iMOM breakfasts. Each one is open to all moms/guardians/caregivers and students. Because these breakfasts are open to all families, they have the potential to reach all of our students and their families. By providing presentations and materials on parental success, we are increasing the success of our Muller families and our students. By providing food, community, and giveaways, we are increasing parental participation and engagement; two factors that will improve student success at our school.
