Project Goal

To obtain materials that will foster students to create more realistic model for the Design Challenge Projects (STEM).

How Project Benefits Students

Students have been limited with what materials they can use. We have created all of our projects with recycled materials. Many of my students have asked for more specific materials that are needed for their prototypes/models- such as Styrofoam, cardboard, wooden dowels, and items that can be used as wheels. Over the summer my students and I have collected materials that we feel can be used, but the third design build those materials have been depleted. As a class we just cannot collect enough materials to keep the building process engaging. With a larger collection of crafting materials, students will be able to put their creative and scientific mind to work building these awesome models/prototypes.
With a large population of students with special needs, having concrete materials enables to visualize concepts and make real world connection to the material they are using for their prototype/model.

Expected Outcome(s)

Students will demonstrate and understand of scientific concepts using real world models
-Students will use the demonstrate and understand of Engineering Design Cycle Process
-Students will communicate both orally and writing their justification of their design.
-Students will collaborate on their use of the materials in the model/prototype
-Students will have to collect and evaluate authentic data on their models and justify their design iterations.
