Project Goal

My goal is to help my students develop there phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension skills before they advance to third grade. I would like to take my class from 22% on-level to 85% on-level by the end of the school year.
 

 

How Project Benefits Students

My students have severe deficits in literacy and language. Our class is composed of 100% English Language Learners. 45% of my class are one grade below-level and 30% of my class are two grade below-level.
I am going to use the majority of these resources during our phonics skill block. My students will use the listening center to develop their fluency and comprehension. Many of the other resources I will use in my small group instruction. The daily journal will be their morning work and I will do a mini-lesson everyday, as we go over the answers.
My students are extremely hard working and I keep very high expectations for them. I am hoping to use these resources to fill the learning gaps and help my students successfully transition into amazing readers! 

 

Expected Outcome(s)

This grant will benefit 18-20 students this year, however with many of the resources reusable, it will benefit a countless number of students in the future. Both myself and my ELL para will be utilizing the resources to work with students.
I would like to see at least 85% of my students excel to on-level by the end of the school year. I would like my students to have confidence in their reading before they go to third grade. Research shows that kids who struggle read and comprehend have a higher rate of dropping out of school.
 

 

Detailed Cost Summary

These resources are all from Lakeshore Learning, except the Word Wall Journals, which are from School Specialty. The shipping and taxes unfortunately are not exempt.
