Find It Fund It Florida - Hillsborough Education Foundation

The goal of this project is to improve the school environment by focusing on promoting positive behavior by using the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system. Research findings suggest that effective school climates are linked to increased instructional time, reduced discipline referrals, improved social and emotional skills and enhanced school safety. The PBIS initiative has proven to be effective in improving school climate for students across the globe. One foundational principle of the PBIS system is positive recognition/reinforcement, which is intended to increase student displays of positive behavior. As a PBIS school, we hope to use positive recognition and reinforcement to reshape student behavior in order to continue building a safe school environment where students can be successful!

How Project Benefits Students

At Lamb, our students strive to Lead, Achieve, Motivate and Build. They do this by exhibiting to the “3 R’s”: Respectful, Responsible and Ready. Students who display these characteristics are rewarded with Bolt Bucks, our school currency, which fund their visits to the Lightning Store, entry into school-wide PBIS events (ice cream party, snack bars, movie and popcorn, field day, game room, stage lunch bunch, etc.,). The positive reinforcers offered at Lamb have helped our students learn behaviors necessary to be successful academically (by reducing time spent outside of the classroom due to discipline) and socially (by teaching behaviors relevant for positive peer interactions). When awarded a similar grant during the 2021-2022 school year, we saw improvements in school attendance as well as decreases in discipline referrals. This grant will continue to allow our school to fund school-wide PBIS incentives without creating an additional burden on school resources.

Expected Outcome(s)

Our is expectation is that we will continue to see noticeable changes in classroom and school climate and behavior. This will be measured by the amount of discipline referrals received as well as student reports of social and emotional supports in their school environment as reported on the Panorama Education survey.
