Spurlino Foundation - $495.00
The MacFarland Park music program is seeking recorders for every third grade student. Playing recorder is an invaluable component of the intermediate music program in elementary school, and third graders will be able to use their new recorders in third, fourth and fifth grade music class.
When students learn to play recorder, they are applying fundamental higher-level music skills: not only are they learning the skills and techniques of playing a wind instrument, but they are also applying note-reading skills and their knowledge of key musical concepts including dynamics, tempo, phrasing, form, melody and harmony. Students are highly engaged in learning as they enjoy the benefits of performing music together with their friends.
Playing recorder is a brand new skill for third graders! It will be easy to measure their progress from start to finish in the third grade recorder program. All students will be able to demonstrate significant growth in their ability to read music notation, identify and interpret music symbols, and perform the skills necessary to produce a pleasing tone and use accurate fingerings as they build their song repertoire.
