Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Amgen Foundation - $134.74
This project will give my students an opportunity to witness the lifecycle of monarch butterflies all the way from egg to adult. Students will be able to make daily observations and pose questions on our wonder wall.
My students will take the fifth grade science assessment at the end of the year. One of the standards we will review has to do with the lifecycle of Florida plants or animals that undergo complete metamorphosis. Having actual butterflies in the classroom will bring science to life for my students and help with student engagement. Students will be able to help take care of the caterpillars each day.
Students will have a better understanding of complete metamorphosis after completing this project. They will be able to compare and contrast the difference between complete and incomplete metamorphosis.
The plants will be placed in the butterfly habitat cage to prevent any caterpillars from escaping. Students will witness the caterpillars eating the plants before forming its chrysalis. When the butterfly emerges as a class we will release it in our school garden.
