Project Goal

The goal of this project is to help students learn how to self-regulate when they feel a variety of different emotions at school. The calm corner will be an example for teachers who would like to have one in their classroom, it can also be a place where they will send students who need a break with the school psychologist who will model appropriate and effective strategies to regulate emotions so that students can return to class ready to learn.  

 

How Project Benefits Students

This project benefits students by increasing engagement in instruction. When students learn to self-regulate they will eventually become proficient in emotional regulation and spend less time engaged in inappropriate behaviors which take away from their learning. It will benefit teachers by allowing them to focus on academic instruction.  

 

Expected Outcome(s)

Students will spend less time being removed from class, will have fewer behaviors documented in behavior tracker, have less discipline referrals, and have fewer negative calls home to parents. This will increase the number of students who are successful with core Tier 1 behavior classroom behavior management and reduce the number of students needing tier 2 and 3 behavior intervention.
