Project Goal

Our goal at Heritage Elementary is to refresh and replant our large school garden. We hope to restore our garden to its former glory with bountiful harvests and an outdoor learning space for all to use. We need supplies including soil, fertilizer, garden tools, mulch, milkweed plants, walkway materials, and durable exterior grade tables to continue hands-on STEM activities through our established garden.

How Project Benefits Students

This project benefits students by providing them with meaningful learning opportunities through STEM and Social Emotional Learning. Students learn about plant and insect life cycles through hands-on investigations in the garden while also developing important life skills, such as responsibility and patience, in taking care of their gardens. This garden is an existing permanent structure at our school and attracts thousands of pollinators annually. It connects to multiple facets of our curriculum and encourages teachers to create cross curricular projects that incorporate STEM and ELA standards.

Expected Outcome(s)

This garden refresh will benefit every single student and teacher at Heritage Elementary. We hope to rebuild our outdoor classroom with more permanent and durable tables to provide use of this space for years to come. Our garden has also been the home to thousands of monarch butterflies, so in addition to providing learning benefits for our students, we also hope to support the struggling monarch population annually.
