Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Amgen Foundation - $1,998.00
Wilson Middle School is in need of an outdoor electrical power station and water spigot for our New Agriculture Program.
The electricity will allow us to develop and maintain hydroponic/aquaponic systems, lights, pumps and other electrical equipment important for our program. The water access in this area of the field will allows us to irrigate plants, provide water for animals and fill tanks. These utilities will also enable us to hold outdoor events on the Physical Education Field. The power station will also enable us to scale up to a solar classroom in the future.
Although merely a utility hookup, this is an important step in our overall goal to develop a solar classroom in the future. The future solar classroom would be able to display the amount of energy being generated throughout the day and also display how much energy the solar system is giving back to the grid.
This experiential learning site will take students beyond the textbook into outdoor, Supervised Agricultural Experiences. Students will learn about Gardening, Global Sustainability, Renewable Energy, Food-Energy-Water Nexus Solutions, Physical Science and more.
Included in the costs are the installation of both the power station and water spigot along with extension cords and water hoses.
