Apply standard-based education in unique, innovative, and engaging ways through school gardening initiatives.
Research has shown that gardening in school positively influences students' environmental attitudes, self esteem, test scores, school attitudes, interpersonal skills, social concerns and behavior. Scholars will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on, real world learning opportunities that directly integrate K-5th Science, Math, Reading, and Social Study standards.
Every grade will discover a component of gardening that correlates with their curriculum. Teachers will find innovative ways to design and deliver instruction through gardening, and making real-world applications with their students. Our goal is to connect students to the environment in the most directive way possible, and measure learning based on Florida state standards.
This is a list of items needed to replenish our hydroponics school garden. We also are requesting two new ground boxes, as ours were damaged during a storm. Requesting seed money for various seasonal Florida seeds. Compost bin is for the schoolwide garden, and the classroom compost are clear so students can see what items will break down, and how long it will take over time. Compost worms will assist with the process. These items are the amount needed to run a full year of garden program school-wide.
