Project Goal

We want to reward students for implementing our school-wide PBIS expectations: 1. Be Safe 2. Be Responsible 3. Be Respectful. We also want to cultivate positive social skills that will encourage our students to become leaders and help us build a supportive and welcoming community at Shaw Elementary.

How Project Benefits Students

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) is a preventative approach that will assist with teaching our students appropriate behavior expectations and strategies. The framework allows us to move away from punishment and focuses on correcting behaviors by learning social and emotional skills. This project creates and promotes a safe, positive, and equitable learning environment for our students. A major benefit of Shaw’s PBIS project is to reward positive behaviors and shine a light on ALL our students following those school wide expectations.

Expected Outcome(s)

Our team believes that our Tier 1 students will thrive academically and socially throughout the year based on our PBIS implementation. We will collect data to determine the program’s effectiveness. Shaw Elementary is determined to increase attendance and reduce behavior incidents by creating a safe, positive, and equitable learning community dedicated to the success of every student.
