Project Goal

This professional learning experience is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the BSCS 5E Instructional Model to support planning for instruction and assessment aligned with the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) and A Framework for K-12 Science Education. Participants will learn how to develop phenomena-based 5E instructional sequences to support coherent storylines and conceptual flow aligned with the NGSSS and A Framework for K-12 Science Education

How Project Benefits Students

Teachers struggle with finding time to plan lessons that are incorporating active discussion and academic ownership. This grant will provide funding for 9-12 science educators that are interested in deepening their understanding of the BSCS 5E Instructional Model to learn to develop phenomena-based coherent storylines with conceptual flow using the 5E Instructional Model to implement the Science and Engineering Practices from A Framework for K-12 Science Education

Expected Outcome(s)

Teachers will develop lessons in content areas that are focused using the Science and Engineering Practices that are developed through a 5E model, engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate. The lessons are meant to be engaging for students and align with the four principles of instruction. Lessons will be rigorous with individual student academic ownership. The lessons developed at East Bay in various content areas will be shared with the district. The goal is to build multiple lessons in 5E that teachers can select from for their students

Detailed Cost Summary
