Project Goal

In my classroom, I inherited a storage unit where I can keep work systems, but I need funds to help fill them with tasks so that I have an appropriate activity for each student and their various needs. 

 

How Project Benefits Students

Task boxes or work systems are extremely beneficial for students with disabilities as it can help them master various reading, daily living, and job skills that they need in order to be successful once they complete school. My students are in high school and I would like to be able to provide them each with individualized work systems that will be helping them now and in the future. They are also beneficial in the fact that they promote independence and build self-esteem through completion of start-to-finish tasks. 

 

Expected Outcome(s)

The task boxes that I plan to make will be set up to help each student work towards successfully mastering various Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals that are aimed at preparing them for college and other post-graduation life skills. Some of the work systems will have the versatility to be used by multiple students (identifying realistic coins/bills to practice money skills, identifying sight words to improve basic reading skills, manipulatives for counting and sorting activities) and some will also have the potential to be used with future students.
