The goal of this project is to provide students opportunities to experience plant growth first-hand by observing seed germination and the role environmental factors play in plant growth.
This project would give my students a first-hand experience as we explore the 4th grade standards of seed germination, plant characteristics, and plant life cycles. The hydroponic system specifically would allow us to control the environmental contributions to plant growth as we investigate the requirements needed to germinate seeds. As a STEM magnet program in the county, the students would be able to combine technology and hands-on Earth science as they experience plant growth.
The students will master the fourth-grade standards and retain that knowledge due to the hands-on experiential project-based learning. Students will be able to explain the cycle of the seed/plant growth, the characteristics of the plants, and the impact the environmental factors had on the growth.
