Find It Fund It Florida - Hillsborough Education Foundation

My goal is to increase the vocabulary and language skills of 3rd grade students so that they can be successful in reading and writing. Students need many hands on resources and books to be engaged and inspired to love reading and writing. This project will serve 4 ELA groups in a Title 1 Transformation school. We have ELL, ESE, and Gifted students in the classes. The goal is for ALL students to grow to each of their fullest potential in the area of reading and writing. This is a critical year for these students and they need to develop strong reading and writing skills to be successful.

How Project Benefits Students

This project will provide many activities in the ELA block to engage each student. The journals will help the students develop reading and writing skills daily. It will help the students to think critically about what they are reading and writing. We have amazing volunteers that have been helping our students, these activity journals will also be great to have student/volunteer interaction and they can discuss and deepen their comprehension and vocabulary when having discussions about it.
Students also will have a personal word journal. Our students are ELL and we can add to the vocabulary and they can refer to it daily.
The English Language Learner Game library will help students master the basics of written and spoken English in an engaging way.
I also want to build stamina and excitement with reading chapter books. I would love to have a class set of the Horrible Harry Moves Up to Third Grade. This will be done daily to build excitement and stamina for reading longer books.

Expected Outcome(s)

The increase in reading and writing opportunities will develop a true love for learning, reading, and writing. Students will be inspired and an increase in reading and writing will result in improvement.
All students will make one year of reading growth.
Students will be able to write a multi paragraph piece by May.
