The goal of this project is to create a dedicated makerspace in the media center where students have an opportunity to engage in hands-on, creative, and cooperative activities that merge Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) as well as build literacy and social skills.
A makerspace will allow students to use concepts they learn in the classroom and apply them to real world issues and extend their learning. Any activities will support the standards students are taught in class. Library programs promote literacy but not just in English language arts; a makerspace will help build literacy throughout the curriculum. A makerspace will also increase collaboration amongst learners across grade levels.
We are a Title I school who strives to level the playing field for our students. Having a dedicated makerspace will allow students at all grade levels to enrich their learning by building a culture of creativity, collaboration, and inquiry.
A total of $449.19 is needed to fully fund this project. Those funds will be spent on tactile building items. The variety of items purchased will give students a chance to experience rotating challenges every other week.
