Find It Fund It Florida - Hillsborough Education Foundation

This project will allow 18 media specialists to clean and repair books from their elementary school libraries! We all know that the most popular books get the most abuse, and our goal is to keep them in kids' hands for as long as possible. The Tampa Bay Library Consortium gave a training on how best to repair worn books, and we want to share this with our peers. This project will allow us to buy all of the materials and then teach those who did not attend the training on how to properly clean and repair books.

Project Goal

This project will allow 18 media specialists to clean and repair books from their elementary school libraries! We all know that the most popular books get the most abuse, and our goal is to keep them in kids' hands for as long as possible. The Tampa Bay Library Consortium gave a training on how best to repair worn books, and we want to share this with our peers. This project will allow us to buy all of the materials and then teach those who did not attend the training on how to properly clean and repair books.

How Project Benefits Students

The basic goal of the school library is to foster a love of reading. We realize that a good reading experience will include having a clean book that isn't falling apart at the seams. This project will provide materials for 18 elementary media specialists to clean, repair, and deodorize the books in their media center. Ordering new books is part of the yearly budget, but keeping old favorites around longer will enhance the choices available and stretch that budget as far as possible.

Expected Outcome(s)

The following 18 elementary schools will be included in this project: Anderson, Ballast Point, Booker T Washington, Chiramamonte, DeSoto, Dunbar, Gorrie, Grady, Mabry, MacFarlane, Mitchell, Roosevelt, Shore, Sullivan Partnership, Tampa Bay Boulevard, B.C. Graham. The total number of students attending these schools is 7,712. We expect that the materials purchased will enable the librarians to repair and clean books for a year, with some of the materials lasting more than a year.

Detailed Cost Summary

we will order the above materials as well as erasers, cutting mats, repair wings, label makers, hand presses, bone folders, wax paper, and more. The total for 18 schools is $4,000.
