The goal of this project is to create "Hokey Pokey Buckets". The buckets will have an array of tools that students can use to "turn themselves around" when they feel intense emotions during the school day. Using self-regulation tools will help students be able to refocus and get back to learning and other school-related activities.
The beauty of this project is that all of these tools will be given directly to classrooms so that students can use them when they are feeling intense emotions.
Our school boasts a wide variety of learners. We have general education students, students learning a second language, students with learning disabilities, students with intellectual disabilities, and students span preschool age through fifth grade. All of these learners experience unique circumstances that could be stir up intense emotions at times throughout the school day. Every teacher will have a "Hokey Pokey Bucket" that is differentiated to the students they have in each class, so these tools will work for the unique students using them.
It is important that every student in our school has equal access to items that can help them calm down, refocus, and get back to the incredible learning that they can experience here at Seminole Heights Elementary School.
With this project funded, students will have guaranteed access to tools to calm down when they feel intense emotions such as anxiety, frustration, anger, embarrassment, or sadness. Students can use these tools to release their emotions and get back to the learning quickly and safely.
This will also lead to less distractions for students experiencing intense emotions and others students in class. This will increase focus, lessen the number of students being removed from class, lessen the number of referrals, and lessen the number of suspensions. Many of the office discipline referrals students received could have been avoided if students were able to calm themselves down and try to solve their problem when they were in a calmer state of mind.
This can also increase learning outcomes, as students will be able to return to their academic tasks after they are calm and ready to learn. This will also help students continue to boost their academic achievements, and pursue their goals.
All of these tools will be in each classroom with the students, so they do not need to go to a special location in the school to obtain these tools. All of these tools will benefit students at Seminole Heights Elementary School, so they can continue their amazing learning.

Every teacher will have a "Hokey Pokey Bucket" to calm down students, which is why the quantities are elevated. These tools will be kept in each classroom at Seminole Heights Elementary School, as students strive towards their learning goals this school year.
